Mineral King, in addition to being a spectacular high Sierra valley, is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its unique character is found not only in the mining-era buildings but also in the families who have been a part of the community for many generations.
The National Park Service, whose mission includes the preservation of cultural as well as natural values, has acknowledged the historic character of the Mineral King cabins. The goal of the Mineral King District Association is to enter into a cooperative agreement between the Park Service and cabin families to preserve and maintain this historic community, so that future generations of visitors to the park will still be able to enjoy this unique example of an early California mining community, where people are still living much as they did over a century ago.
We hope you enjoy browsing through this website to learn more about Mineral King and our efforts to preserve a bit of Sierra Nevada pioneer history.
